Venue

The summer school will be held at a loft in a co-working space in one of Vienna's most hip quarters. In addition to a well-equipped presentation and working area, the venue includes a large balkony and sofas to relax, a fully-equipped kitchen and high-speed WIFI.

The venue is in walking distance to many bars, cafes and shops and a 20-minute walk to Vienna's historical centre. Coffee breaks and lunches will be included in the price of the registration fee.

Obtaining a travel visa

Austria is part of the EU's Schengen area. Check out who needs Schengen visas, if you are not sure if you need a visa.

If you require a visa, we recommend the participants to contact the nearest embassy, consulate, or travel agency for information about the passport and visa requirements from their country for entry to Austria (Schengen). If you need an invitation letter for visa purposes, then write in due time to acpsummer2019@gmail.com. To avoid visa fraud, unfortunately we have to ask you to provide the following information:

Students:
  • brief reference letter from your supervisor
Non-students:
  • the Digital Object Identifier (DOI) of at least one publication in scope of an optimisation or satisfiability-related conference
  • OR some other evidence of your affiliation with optimisation (e.g reference letter from employer)

About Vienna

Vienna is the capital of Austria, which is located in central Europe. Vienna has a population close to 2 million people and has been repeatedly voted most livable city in the world. Its historical centre is an UNESCO world heritage site.

Vienna is very warm in July, with many out-door events, such as concerts, open-air cinemas and festivals. Many museums and the historical centre are in walking distance from the summer school venue. The venue of the summer school is in one of Vienna's most vibrant central districts. You can even go for a cooling swim in and around the Danube!

Travelling to Vienna

By train. There are several international train connections to Vienna, including night trains. The most prominent connections are to Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Slovakia and Switzerland. You can get discount "Sparschiene" tickets to Austria through the national rail way service ÖBB.

By plane. Vienna's international airport offers direct connections to many European cities and several oversea countries. The airport is in the south of the city, and you can get into the city centre by train within 25 minutes.
